Letters – Red tape fury over river hero George
I fail to understand why some small-minded pen pusher should instruct the emergency services not to call on the assistance of river hero George Parsonage for incidents on the Clyde because he works alone.
Do these people not understand that when a member of the public witnesses an accident on the river they do not call Mr Parsonage, they call the emergency services?
It is they who decide at the scene whether or not Mr Parsonage’s assistance would be helpful.
He is not on his own swanning up and down the river looking for emergencies.
The people on his Committee or whatever it is, obviously have no awareness of life on the river.
If he had an assistant would he have to sit on his hands and do nothing until that person turned up?
His knowledge of the river and the speed with which he can be at the scene are what makes his contribution so valuable.
