All River users please note:
SEPA have postponed their may work and will notify of rescheduling as soon as possible.
SEPA are to carry out work on the river in the vicinity of the tidal weir
and Dalmarnock Bridge which will entail ropes being laid across the river,
thus meaning a closure of that section for about 12 hours.
The work at the
weir will not affect rowers and scullers as the rope will cross the river
close to the weir and no one should be down that far anyway.
The work at
Dalmarnock will require craft to turn downriver before Dalmarnock Road
Bridge. This work could benefit all river users in future.
The planned days were Wednesday 4th May and Tuesday 17th May or Wednesday 18th May. Exact details will be forthcoming SAP-- all Clubs and other river users will be notified by SEPA and details will be posted on Club doors and GHS web site.

INFORMATION SHEET NO 1 - 24 August 2010
FOR THE CAMLACHIE BURN OUTFALL PROJECT
Dear Neighbours,
This short information sheet is to keep you informed of the works underway on the Camlachie Burn Outfall that is currently being constructed at the Cuningar Loop on the River Clyde by Grahams the Contractor, on behalf of Glasgow City Council.
To reduce the risk of flooding in the East End, a new drainage pipe is being installed under the site of Athletes Village to drain into the River Clyde.
The construction of this project began mid June 2010 and will be complete by early October 2010.
Over the duration of this contract, major construction work, including
installation of steel sheet piling, will occur on the site of the Athletes'
Village and up to the banks of the River Clyde at the location of the new
floodwater drainage pipe.
At present, the laying of the concrete pipe part of the works on the site of
the Athletes' Village is almost complete and the outfall construction has
advanced greatly. This part of the works involves driving sheet piles and
some concreting works. A vibration method of driving the piles has been
adopted to keep the noise to a minimum. However on occasion, it may be
necessary to use a mechanical pile driver. The use of this is very
infrequent and will only be used when absolutely necessary.
Each of these will produce some noise and vibration. We are regularly
monitoring the noise and vibration around the site during the works to
ensure that it is within acceptable levels.
To enable the drainage pipe to be laid it has been necessary to divert a
large gas main in Springfield Road. This diversion is being carried out by
Scottish Gas Networks for Glasgow City Council. Periodically Scottish Gas
Networks may use cutting and breaking equipment, however this should be for very short periods and infrequently.
At the end of August, periodically, a large crane will be located in Bogside
Street to lift large pieces of equipment into the excavation on Springfield
Road.
Bogside Street will be closed at the entrance to Springfield Road during the period of these works which are programmed to be complete by the end of October. There will however be pedestrian access.
During the gas mains diversion works, Scottish Gas Networks working hours will be between 8am and 4.15pm Monday to Friday.
Working hours on the Athletes Village site will continue to be from 8am to
8pm from Monday to Saturday and 10am to 8pm Sunday, again every effort is being made to restrict work to weekdays and only work weekends where absolutely necessary.
During the construction of this project cyclist and pedestrians will be
diverted away from the works at the cycle path on the River Clyde near the works. The diversion route is clearly marked.
Construction sites can be dangerous places and as such there should be no attempt by anyone other than site personnel to enter the construction site.
It should be noted that there are 24 hour security arrangements in place and that the Police are very vigilant around all the sites in the area.
We will continue to communicate with you regarding progress on site and
where possible advise where there is any impact on the local neighbourhood.
It should be noted that VHE are also working on the site of the Athletes'
Village, carrying out separate works.
Should you wish to contact us for any reason regarding any of the works or for information or to give feedback on our activities, please phone, during office hours:

The cyclepath/towpath between Rutherglen and Dalmarnock Bridges has been opened to the public again weeks ahead of schedule.
June 2010
McLay has won the contract for the upgrading of the towpath/cycleway between Allan's Pen (Rutherglen Bridge) and Dalmarnock Bridge. This work commenced 28th June and will entail the towpath being closed to public for possibly two months.

Thanks must go to Clydesdale ARC who last weekend supplied the manpower and tools to remove a tree that had fallen into the river between Rutherglen and Polmadie Bridges and was proving a hazard to river users and a danger to youngsters who were trying to climb out on it. We have two sets of swans sitting on nests.
We know that one nest has 8 eggs. It is to be hoped that persons do not harass the swans as in previous years and that the eggs are allowed to hatch. We all like to see the signets on the water.
Well, the Clydesdale Regatta was a very successful affair with racing from
early morning to well into the evening. Prizes were distributed to a wide
range of Clubs, the Boat Races of St Andrew v Clydesdale, Edinburgh v
Glasgow University and the Strathclyde University Barony Cup races provided extra entertainment. In the middle of the day safety cover was slightly interrupted when a woman entered the river below the weir at the Albert Bridge.
A boat was raced to the locus and Tony and George sped out to the pontoon at the Nautical College where three students from Glasgow University were lifting the woman onto the pontoon.
Two of the students had bravely entered the water to get the woman while the other remained on the pontoon to lift them out.
Fire and Rescue Officers arrived by foot at the same time as George and Tony who leaving the F&R Officers to deal with the woman, brought the two wet rescuers into their boat and to the north bank to a waiting Ambulance where the young woman received medical treatment.
Lifeguards Ben Parsonage, Colin Rae, Ross Couper, Frazer McIntyre all
assisted with the launching, lifting of the boat and the recovery of
lifebelts.
The alarm had been raised when a member of the public who is a friend of Lifeguards Alex and Lynne Macdonald contacted them to inform them that a woman was in the water thinking that Alec who lives almost next door to the Lifeboat Station, would inform us immediately, but Alex and Lynne were going on holiday and were driving through Glencoe. Alex phoned Tony who phoned me and in less the 2 mins the boat was launched below the weir.
With George and Tony at the Regatta were the following Lifeguards Ross/Allan Tweedie/Kenny/Ben/Stephanie/Mark McK/Mark C/ Ian B/Marcin/Colin Rae and Riverwatcher Jack Doran.
We shall keep you posted regarding future events at Glasgow Green
Why not visit Glasgow Green this Saturday and watch the Clydesdale Regatta.
This is possibly the largest Regatta held at Glasgow Green for some time. The racing includes a challenge match between Clydesdale and St Andrew (Edinburgh), the annual Glasgow v Edinburgh Universities Boat Races and the Strathclyde University Barony Cup Races so there should be something for everyone including tea cakes and sandwiches.
Glasgow Humane Society will be giving additional safety cover for this event and will be receiving a cheque from Strathclyde University collected at a bag packing event the University rowers organised recently.
While in the Park you could visit the Peoples Palace Winter Gardens and the Old Glasgow Museum or watch students from the Nautical College playing cricket, or the kite flying, American Football practice, women’s football, Martial Arts, runners, dodge the cyclists or just feed the swans ducks and geese (if you are lucky a seal may make a guest appearance)
Racing runs between 0830hrs and 1750hrs followed by prize giving.
February 2010
Halcrow Bridge Inspections
Dalmarnock Bridge - Mon 15th Feb to Wed 17th Feb
Orion Bridge- Thurs 18th Feb and Fri 19th Feb
Kings Bridge - Mon 22nd Feb to Fri 26th Feb
Note that additional work involving contractors being on the river may take place at extremely short notice over the next few weeks, so everyone should be extra vigilant.
January 2010
Riverbank clearance work scheduled for the start of the year has almost been completed. Only certain trees for various reasons were allowed to be removed. As much as possible, dangerous overhang has been removed at the sewage works bend.
As thought “someone” threw some branches and logs into the water and there has been a trail of them downriver. Fortunately this has coincided with the floodwater and there have been no rowers out and they have for the most part continued downstream for removal by the St Mungo.
We have removed as best possible any trees brought down by the floodwater and stuck on piers of bridges—but we do not know what has still to come down so care will have to be taken.
