SAVING TIME, SAVING LIVES

SIGN HERE

The Glasgow Humane Society is proud to announce the erection of Lifebelt Position Signs along the River Bank from the Tidal Weir to Polmadie covering the whole area of Glasgow Green.

SIGN OF THE TIMES

The letters and numbers on the signs relate to the position of the signs. These positions will be tagged to the emergency services Global Satellite Position Units. When the control room receive an emergency call and are given the Lifebelt Position Number they can locate the exact position and will be given information on access, dangers and any other information which may help. This can then be relayed to the persons in attendance to the call.

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE

Many parts of the towpaths along the River Bank have few landmarks making it difficult to pinpoint your exact position. Even if you could give your exact position few people know how to get there quickly. This is where the Lifebelt Position Signs will save the Emergency services vital time getting to a casualty or person in difficulty.

STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION

Although the Glasgow Humane Society has worked very hard to produce, erect and implement these Lifebelt Position Signs we are still have a great deal more work to do as we believe this is just the beginning of a very large task. Our vision for the future is to have these types of signs posted along side all of Glasgow’s waterways.

Thanks are due to the Water Safety Working Group for purchasing these signs and to various Glasgow Council Departments for assistance.
